Health and Safety

At Smallwood Construction Ltd we have a Health & Safety Management System controlling and managing all aspects of health & safety within the company. Working closely with our health and safety advisors, Reach for Safety, we have been able to implement systems which are of an extremely high standard and keep up with the ever increasing demands placed upon us within the industry.

Our health, safety and environmental objectives, during any project which we undertake, are to have:

Health and Safety Policy
We have a Health & Safety Policy in place and all employees are aware of their responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.   Our policy is reviewed on a yearly basis.

Accidents/Accident Reporting & Accident Investigations including RIDDOR
We take any accident, incident or near miss situation very seriously and will record, report (where required) and undertake a full investigation to establish the circumstances, then develop control measures to prevent recurrence.

Risk Management and Risk Assessments
As required by the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 we undertake risk assessments to identify and prioritise the measures that need to be taken to reduce a risk and to comply with the relevant statutory provisions, ensuring that adequate controls are in place and appropriate to the nature of the projects.  Copies of assessments are kept in our health and safety file and can be looked at on request.

COSHH
Assessments have been completed on products previously used and new assessments will be completed for products received which do not have an existing assessment.

Sub-Contractors
All sub-contractors are asked to read and sign our Sub-Contractors Code of Practice.  This highlights the duties of all sub-contractors regarding health and safety.

Method Statements
Method Statements will be carried out in conjunction with a risk assessment for any task that must follow a specific pattern and/or contains a high level of risk.  Should any method statement result in a requirement for specific training, this will be arranged with an appropriate company.

Health & Safety Monitoring
The monitoring of health and safety on site will be based on active monitoring systems, i.e. identification of potential risks before things go wrong.  This monitoring is part of our in house systems and is monitored by Reach for Safety.

We are committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, visitors and customers to their workplace, with safe equipment and systems of work”
